No, but an apology would be nice!Horsetan wrote:Do I detect a claim for compensation?ArthurK wrote:...I might also add another photo of 63358 taken at Blaydon is also mine. Hornby have used this in their short video "The Story So Far" without bothering to find out the owner of the copyright.

Re: Hornsby Q6
Mine arrived this morning.
Absolutely exquisite model, and runs like a dream even through short radius points and crossovers. I hadn't been so excited by a RTR release since the P2, and I'm not disappointed.
My apparent ignorance of the timeline and variations of the original have turned out in my favour.
To my admittedly limited experience this is one the best RTR offerings I can recall.
A prototype from a long deceased concern being offered to mainstream modellers.
Top marks to Hornby.

Re: Hornsby Q6
Hi All
looking at the info already provided, plus additional info from Yeadon's Register of LNER Locomotives Volume 23, I can focus on three Q6 0-8-0s in the Middlesbrough area that had a 50A diagram boiler by 1939:
Darlington built 2216, received 50A boiler in 1938, shed 51B Newport in 1939.
Darlington built 2237, received 50A boiler in 1939, shed 51B Newport in 1939.
Armstrong Whitworth built 2265, received 50A boiler in 1938, shed 51B Newport in 1939.
1939 was a significant date for the Middlesbrough area, as it was the year that the Gresley V1/V3 Class was allocated to Middlesbrough Shed 51D. So a representative RTR locomotive fleet c 1939 can now include the J39 0-6-0; J72 0-6-0T; Q6 0-8-0; V1/V3 2-6-2T. Add to this the J94 0-6-0ST; L1 2-6-4T; K1 2-6-0; and WD 2-8-0 post-war, together with the LMS locomotives found in the area, and things are coming together for North Eastern fans.
Therefore what chance a G5 0-4-4T push-pull passenger combination; with a J26/J27 0-6-0 for those North Eastern mine/colliery workings?
Regards

Re: Hornsby Q6
Can anybody vouch please for the quality / suitability / accuracy of any of the separately sold domes if one is seeking to provide a true "French Helmet" NE dome in lieu of the standard Hornby offering on the Q6. Mick kindly pointed elsewhere to Dave Bradwell's lists, but Mr Bradwell's pictures only show his loco kits (of all types) built up as late period examples in detestable BR livery.

Re: Hornsby Q6
Good morning all
Dave Alexander supplies two Q6 domes in his kit. One referred to as NER dome is the round type fitted to the Diag50 boilers and the other referred to as LNER dome is the squarish type fitted to the Diag50A boilers from 1938.
Dave Alexander will usually supply such items separately.
My camera battery has just gone flat. If Atlantic3279 waits until it charges up, I will take and post pics of the domes.
Earlswood nob
PS: DA also supplies alternative smokebox doors, safety valves, whistles, and buffers in the kit.

Re: Hornsby Q6
Try Arthur K for the dome I think he does one for his B15.

Re: Hornsby Q6
Thanks for those suggestions. I shall await re-fizzing of batteries. It's a pity that Dave Alexander's web pages relied on free hosting by a third party (as did many of my older thread images).

Re: Hornsby Q6
Having ordered both the BR and LNER versions, I belatedly notice the different smokebox door on 3418. Can anyone supply me with details of a BR-numbered example with the same smokebox door as 3418?
Thanks in advance,
Peter C.

Re: Hornsby Q6
I have the early dome (D50 boiler) in white metal or brass. Also smokebox doors (both NER and the later LNER style. The B15 also used the D50 boiler so that most of the boiler fittings were the same. The dome and smokebox door are the NER style.Atlantic 3279 wrote:Can anybody vouch please for the quality / suitability / accuracy of any of the separately sold domes if one is seeking to provide a true "French Helmet" NE dome in lieu of the standard Hornby offering on the Q6. Re: Hornsby Q6
That dome looks very good, as of course does the rest of the loco.

The dome and smokebox door from Dave Alexander's kit;
On the left is the later smokebox door and dome (labelled LNER in kit).
On the right is the early smokebox door and dome (labelled NER in kit).

Re: Hornsby Q6
The photo is interesting relating to Smokebox Door shapes.
To my eyes the NER version is Flat and the LNER one is Curved , what do people think ?
Hornby to my eyes have the Q6 LNER version with a flat Door , in Yeadon the same Loco is in a photo with a clearly Curved Door in early 1948 livery .
