I can't claim to have built the A2/2 in the photo below myself - I picked it up at auction - but I believe it was scratchbuilt many many years ago. It needs a little touching up and the tender is not totally horizontal, but it kind of captures the prototype-ish.

Charm it may have(?), but I'd swap it for Mick B's like a flash!

Hail to the Great Gresley and all his disciples
I did think about the 8F chassis, but wheel spacings are wrong. I overlooked the fact that Comet sell the motion seperately.
Keep up the pics of the O1 as they are encouraging me to finish the decorating and get back to modelling.

G'Day Gents

From the Department of Utter Joy,.......after getting all the problems sorted out, last night I thought I'd give the O1 a belt around the branch, and off it went, a 90mph freight engine, brilliant, so after a couple of circuits, to warm it up I slowed it down to a brisk walk, then into reverse ........3 feet later, I have valve gear all over the place, but still connected, worked perfect in forward gear, but not in reverse, Hmm, something wrong, after a careful inspection I realized that she had been running for a quarter of a century  unquartered !!!!! actually the wheels etc would have been 'halved' (90 degrees out)

So tonight I've unsoldered the valve gear, removed the wheels, and not only put the wheels in the right quartered position I've changed sides as she always ran wrong way round, to every other engine  I just have to change the pick ups and replace the valve gear, then we'll see how she runs. Workbench for dummies, here Boss

G'Day Gents

And a special welcome to the 'Eccles Fan club'

Haven't done anything to the O1 for a while , although it's still sitting on the workbench, I'm in the process of 'tarting' up another J50 for my lad in England and want to get it in the post before Christmas, (Where's this year gone  )

Now I've gone and bought a very nice LNER (what else!) Push Pull coach from KimballThurlow, see below, the question now is what loco to Push and Pull them I know that they were used on the 'Northern Heights' mainly between Finsbury Park and Alexandra Palace, but I am sure that the LNER used GC loco's and not GN, any help would be very gratefully received.

Thanks manna

Funny you should say C12, I was laying in bed at 3.50am when I suddenly thought to myself..........C12, Ah, three great minds etc........

I have a Kirk, all Third, outside in the shed, that should be alright to be it's running mate.

and as to why I was awake at 3.50 am.........warm night, just had a couple of mid 30s, days 8)

Thanks 52D, I had a feeling that some loco's other than GN loco's were used, I have seen a picture of a GC engine pulling a couple of LNER coaches, its on the Disused Railways website (Muswell Hill) but it might be a N5 ?

Now where's that M7 to G5 thread ! :P

G'Day Gents

And a very Edgware Merry Christmas to all

Well the O1's taken a bit of a back seat lately, but it is progressing slowly, a few other things have taken my fancy, and have also taken my time, I've spent a bit of time getting a 'Kirk' all third running, to go with the new push pull coach, next in line was a 'Kirk' Artic Twin all third, which is now roughly half done.

A C12 has been purchased from Messrs E-Bay, it's in BR livery at the moment but will be relivered to LNER, and should look right on the push pull trains to Finchley, another loco has been started, if you could call it that, I've only wheeled the chassis, it's a G5, as I believe a number of them were used in North London in the 50's.

Here's a few pics.

PS, please excuse the odd bogies on the artic twin, only temp.

Is the G5 a kit or is it a Manna production?

G'Day Gents

The G5 will be a 'Manna' production, and I have an idea on how to make the tanks square (which is where I always get it wrong) I'm going to use the thick plastic that you find in your 'fridge' !!!!............the crisper part anyway, not everybodies fridge crisper is the same, but I was at work the other day when I opened the door on an old freezer unit, and noticed the trays were made out of a thick crystal clear plastic, got to be between 6 and 8mm thick, I also have it in mind to use it on buildings, make the outer coverings in embossed brick and the inner out of this crisper plastic, it would give you a strong inner shell and do you your windows at the same time !! well it's got to be worth a try, Edgwares station builds beckon !!

Here's a few general pictures.

That would make a good prototype, biggest problem would be space, best time to model Finchley Central would be during the war, then you could run the tube trains as well.
