One of the slowest projects on the Forum I should think, but I have got round to painting and lining my, still un-motorised, 4-8-2 now named 4920 Knight of St George.

It still awaits a little more lining and satin varnish.

As you will see I have shamelessly pinched the number off Graeme's wonderful streamlined version. The name I just liked, and it helped that 247 have this fictitious one in stock!

Behind 4920 is a renamed Mallard picked up with some missing bits on eBay, given a single chimney and renamed/renumbered 4463 Sparrow Hawk. It needs front number which I always struggle with, cab doors, fall-plate, and then a coat of satin again.

Other A4s being built up from odds and sods of spares picked up over time on eBay include 2511 Silver King (renamed from 2510 Quicksilver) - awaiting cab doors and satin varnish.

And, the ill-fated wartime black 4469 Sir Ralph Wedgwood, also awaiting front number, cab doors and satin finish.

Pic of Sir Ralph at Alnmouth on the eve of War in 1939. The cross over allows southbound trains from the Alnwick branch to access the mainline south to Newcastle.

Nice pic thanks.

4469 was of course destroyed just after her April 1942 overhaul when she was painted black.

That Mountain looks the part. Hopefully I will soon be joining you in the ownership of a similar beast!
I have just acquired an A3 and a spare loco body.
When it arrives next week, it will be introduced to my friends, Razor Saw and Lump Hammer.
I too am pondering the motor issue. Keep posting any solutions you may find and if manage to create a method, I'll post it for your benefit

I realised she had gone into Black but hadn't known the date so she would have been fairly pristine when the Baedecker raid hit.

Yes and according to good old Wikipedia she was running in on local turns at the time she got caught in York North Shed.

All of your locos are looking good there. If I might offer my own twopenn'orth with regards to motoring the 4-8-2 - I found that when I was building my own locos, stretching the chassis forwards rather than backwards allowed me to keep the motor in the 'as designed' location within the Hornby bodies, this also being the widest/tallest part of the bodies. Also, having gotten used to loco-drive machines, I personally find that tender-drive would be a bit of a step backwards, like 'design clever'.

That mountain is a monster and a bit of a beast if I do say so! Very nicely done.

That's the maddest looking loco I've seen, quite brilliant at the same time, grey livery is very clever.

Cheers

Mountain looking good Jim - Mine's in a state of flux as I have also yet to get a motor into it. The original extended mechanism is now under the streamlined version so I'm wondering whether a forward extension to a chassis might solve the motor problem as the motor in its current position fouls the top underside of the boiler.

Thanks very much guys.

Graeme recommended a strategy to motorise the Mountain some time ago and I finally sourced a slim-line can motor which is still sitting in its bag!

It needs the worm attaching and then fixing in place, but a modeller with some competence would have undoubtedly have done it by now.

Having nowhere to run my models currently is a disincentive.

Afternoon guys

Modelling is a hobby and should be enjoyed. If you take a long time to construct/modify then that is only to suit your own needs. I have so much in my roundtuit pile that I doubt it will all get finished, but I get pleasure from it.
I do not have a layout, and have to make do with a test track, but get enjoyment out of building (or attempting to build) models.

I have just checked for anyone interested: the motor I sourced for the Mountain was a Mashima 1360 from High Level in County Durham. It is very slim but I was assured it was man enough for the job. To avoid destroying it, I shall have to seek some assistance in attaching the worm in the right place etc!
