Opc LNER formations

Post by Griff »

Looking at trying to get hold of a copy of the OPC book LNER passenger trains and formations by Steve Banks and Clive Carter.
What should I be expecting to pay for a mint copy?

I had to check the time of your posting given the date...

Silly prices based on current number of copies on offer on the usual sites. However, you could chance your arm on a free download, usual security caveats apply: https://all-med.net/get/ebook.php?id=U8 ... &file=LNER Passenger Trains and Formations 1923-67

You have to register in order to download and I hesitate to comment on any copyright issues.

Out of interest I just did a search to see if any second hand copies were around - zero - nada

But I did find one intriguing hit regarding the promised 2nd book - https://www.brownsbfs.co.uk/Product/Ban ... 0860936718

LNER passenger trains and formations 1923-68Volume II,: Secondary, branch line and non-passenger services

??? Published 30/06/2019 ???
Availability Reprinting 30/04/2020

I guess this is either a mistake regarding the publication of the 2nd volume or maybe,... just maybe there is to be a reprint of the first.

It also suggests that it was published 30-6-19, which we know not to be true. I'll wait until I see a copy before me to believe it.

Yes spotted that - that's why I just edited the original.

Maybe worth a phonecall though to confirm what is actually being advertised.

We know for sure that the manuscript for the second volume is not yet complete and that Crecy have taken it off their lists due to the uncertainty.

If you are interested in LNER formations there are copies of various Carriage Workings available from the LNER Society, although print and distribution is temporarily suspended during the Covid-19 situation: https://www.lnersociety.org.uk/publications/

Banks & Carter Volume 2 is included in the 2023 Crecy catalogue for publication in July 2023.

Posted today on RMWeb: "Oh dear. I have given Bill Hudson Books a call, and the situation is that the book has not actually been published as yet. Apparently the author has some kind of issue. More information will be coming at a future date."

Mr Banks has updated his web site re the book for a number of years .

He is well known for "unusual" behaviour, so not surprising to me at least .

I have a new Booklaw catalogue which suggests August for Volume 2.

I hope it is not too far away. I think we can be certain it will not deal with the whole subject, that is too much for one volume.

I understand that Bob Pearman of Bob Pearman books posted on the GERS e-Group, following a conversation with someone at Crecy, that volume 2 is subject to further delays and unlikely to be published this year. Crecy has not responded to queries.

Crecy website is rather belatedly now suggesting publication of Volume 2 will be “Autumn 2023”.

Been here before more than once though, so whilst remaining hopeful I will “believe it when I see it” now.
