I have a clip of that kind of video Micky, but it is B/W and in steam days. I don't know where it comes from, but I am sure it is a commercial video of some kind.

It covers the station, Belle Isle, Goods & Mineral Jct, the Goods Yard and Top Shed, and lasts about 10 minutes. I'm sure that one short clip is of the V2 used in The Ladykillers? but in B/W with a short train of 16t minerals.

I will upload it to Youtube and post the link when it is ready.

If anyone can tell me which video it is from, I will buy it.

EDITED: To say that the video is now updated here:- http://youtu.be/t_6ZOIe_nX0

Super, John. Look forward to seeing the clip. There was something almost magical about that location, certainly very atmospheric.

Great film John, pity there was no sound with it. Great accompanying music, have played it several times.

Micky wrote:Yes you are correct about the 'railway atmosphere' of BELLE ISLE John even in the early 1970s there was still loads of atmosphere to be had in that cutting let alone what it must have been like back in the steam days.

if anyone is interested checkout the 'Kings Cross suburban' dvd from Transport Video Publishing theres some very interesting amateur colour film footage shot in Belle Isle around 1969/70 on what looks like a sunny summer evening featuring Deltics, class 40s, class 47s, class 31s & Craven units.
Since reading this I have dug out my copy of that video and watched it again, and it seems far more interesting and detailed than I remember it from years ago, so thanks for the reminder Micky.

There is one error in the commentary while the film shows the drivers' eye view out of Broad Street towards Dalston Junc.

He refers to the "Lea Valley" 3-car Derby Rolls Royce units as class 127 when he should have said 125. They were both similar, having hydraulic transmission, but the 127s were the 4-car units used out of St Pancras, and not the 3-car ones the commentator is referring to.

Good stuff, Micky. I had a chuckle as well early on in the video when a Morris J2 van, and then a Bedford Dormobile are seen. We had both of those ferrying my band around the country. Ruddy liability, they were.

When we brought out first daughter home from the hospital in our old Dormobile, in 1975, my wife was holding her while sat on the upturned beer crate that served as the front passenger seat. No seat belts or anything. Unthinkable now.

The earlier comment about the 313 emus might last longer than gresley sets may well come true. They are now 37 years old although I have not been near one for over three years I have been told that they are really struggling and lets face it they have had more than there moneys worth out of them. Someone has got to make a decision on replacements very soon that's for sure.
Funny thing nostalgia when diesels replaced steam many said we will never feel the same about diesels, but we are, one day there will be nostalgia over the 313 and other emus that have been around for so long.
