Hello everyone,
I am new here but I'm sure some of you will recognise my moniker from other places (and groan possibly!).
My real name is John Edge and I'm originally from Derby, now living in the NW UK and soon to move to Greece (to catch some decent weather).
You might think I'd be a 'Midland' lad coming from the home of the Midland railway but I was always a bit of an oddball or rebel and preferred the Great Northern interloper - not that I ever saw the "Friargate Line" in action but I do remember seeing it not too long after it had closed.
My very good friend, Ron B. always encouraged me with my Eastern interests which were also helped by having a grandma whose house overlooked the ECML at Swinstead, just north of Little Bytham. Other relatives lived there then and some still do.
I confess - I don't know a great deal about the LNER really but ultimately, I guess I would like to, hence my joining here.
A good few years ago (30+?) I did make a start on building an LNER layout in 00. I remember that I had an Airfix N2, a Replica B1, a Hornby J52 and a really nice kit-built J6. Most of these were pretty poor runners except the J6. Some time later, I went all H0 scale - chasing after good, reliable operation but I understand UK outline 00 has caught up quite nicely nowadays.
Well, that's me!
Cheers,
John.
