Donald Fraser Gould McGill (1875–1962) became famous as the artist who drew most of the "saucy seaside postcards" published by Bamforth & Co Ltd (and famously found himself on trial in Lincoln on 15 July 1954 for contravening the Obscene Publications Act 1857 by doing so. The prosecution evidence consisted of 24 various cards, but not this one).
As far as I can tell this is the only one of his cards with a railway theme. When you think about it, it could have been used as a bit of amusing and helpful passenger advice prior to the start of the Shenfield electrics. Although I suppose the Railway Executive were a bit too prudish for that!
