Having come across one of my old diaries from 60 years ago some entries have certainly taken me back to "steam memories".
10th February 1962 Leeds to Doncaster and return ,up train hauled by 60043 Brown Jack (probably a running in turn) and the down train 60015 Quicksilver on a London -Leeds. Just a note of the Pacific's seen 60006/7/13/14/15/18/26/28/32 60039/40/43/51/62/69/78/87/97/102/106 60117/119/120/125/127/129/139/145/148/ 60553 70007/38

I presume you were firing harvester?.

A long-lost railway friend of mine who I haven't seen for the last 42 years was a telegraph lad in Welwyn Garden City box during 1962-63 the same time that you were on the footplate harvester.

Mickey,

Fireman , alas no , just a schoolboy with a friend making our regular pilgrimage to Doncaster . The nearest we got to working on the railway was having a school friend who became a engine cleaner at Sowerby Bridge 56E in the later days of steam. Many thanks to you and Rockinjohn for your antidotes on railway life.

I read that the last steam working south of Peterborough was on a parcels train hauled by a B.R.9F that made it as far south as Hitchin during 1965.

Leaving aside no.4472 Flying Scotsman working several specials during 1968-1969 on the main line and ex GWR Clun Castle on a Kings Cross to Leeds special in 1967 the last known steam in the London area was a B1 'in steam' being seen at Finsbury Park MPD on new years day 1965.
