Image size

Post by lu4472ke »

I'm trying to upload some images and the editor is telling me that my images are too big. What is the maximum size that an image can be?

The maximum size I have successfully posted is around 250kB.

Therefore around 200kB should always go through.

You should be okay with up to 2MB for attachment sizes.

I thought we had a smaller setting for images, but I can't find it! (from memory it was half, 1MB but I could be wrong)

Images are thumb-nailed at 350px I think (somewhere around there).

Richard,

I am sure anything that big has been rejected previously

Are there any plans to increase the permissible image size to 1MB :?:

Not really. I can have another look at the disk situation, but fundamentally I'm paying for an account that is used for multiple sites and has a fixed amount of disk space.

File size limits keep a check on things, and in the case of photos you don't really need big files for web photos - JPEG does a good job of compressing photos.

The forums currently take up about 5GB - and that is virtually all attachments.

(the static part of the website is 11MB by comparison, although most of the static images are stored on S3/Cloudfront)
