Can anyone point me at a photo of the y6 after nationalisation? I have found a couple of images of models with " British Railways" along the skirts but nothing showing an actual locomotive. Are these just "modeller's licence" or did they actually appear in this guise, Offers?

Hello. Two Y-6's carried BR numbers, 68082 and 68083. These were brown with black skirting and red buffer beams. The numbers were on the buffer beams to the right of the coupling hook. There was a small ferret and dartboard crest centrally located on the fixed skirting. A photo of 68083 appears in the greenie and Yeadon's Vol 32, in a larger format. They had both been scrapped before the new BR crest began to appear. Hope this helps.

John

Thank you for your reply which is very helpful. When I built my model of the Y6 I had no details of finish so I painted it brown body and black skirts. Based on the fact that they didn't last long into BR, I numbered mine 68082 and left " N E " on the skirts. Back to the drawing board!

It was common practise in the very early days of BR to just paint over the LNER number and add a BR number and leave the rest to sort it's self out at the next major overhaul. Thats what mine will look like when I get round to building it!!!
