The LNER 0-6-2 Locomotives
The 0-6-2T configuration was a versatile type with designs for suburban workings as well as freight and shunting.
The LNER acquired 529 examples at Grouping (1923) - more than any other tank type other than the
0-6-0T - contributed by each of its seven major constituent companies
apart from the GNSR. They were particularly popular on the
GCR, which had over 200.
A further three were acquired with the absoption of the
E&WYUR.
No new classes were introduced by the LNER, but two 0-6-2T classes were adopted as standard types.
A total of 619 survived to Nationalisation (1948).
