The CV & HR Locomotive No. 1
The Colne Valley & Halstead Railway (CV&HR) ordered this locomotive from
Neilson & Co. in 1876, and took delivery later that year. The design was very similar to
Johnson's 0-4-2Ts built by the GER
and withdrawn in 1894. However, No. 1 had a cab, unlike Johnson's cab-less design.
In 1888, supplementary tanks were added, but these were removed in 1911. New boilers were fitted
in 1894 and 1903.
The CV&HR kept No. 1 as a backup for its other locomotives (F9 and
N18 tanks).
The LNER scrapped No. 1 in August 1923. It was never allocated a class or new number.
