Magazine Heads-up: J67s, J69s, and Peppercorn A1s

Post by richard »

During my recent visit to the UK, I picked up a scattering of magazines. Fellow fans of the J67s and J69s will be interested to know that the August 2007 (Vol.12, Issue 9) issue of "Railway Bylines" has a cover article on these useful little engines. The article does not have a main text as such but has extensive captions accompanying ten pages of interesting photographs.

For those who prefer something a bit bigger, "Model Rail" No. 107 (August 2007) has a 'masterclass' on the Peppercorn A1s - ie. a series of articles on the prototype, available models, modifying the Bachmann OO model, etc.

(not a locomotive as such, but BRM Sept '07 has an excellent model of Kings Cross in N - yes it is foreshortened, but effective)

As a J67/J69 fan, thanks for the tip!

These little engines with their Westinghouse pumps, stovepipe chimneys and forward domes could look quite "un-English" from some angles - there is a photo of one at Harwich, shunting the train ferry, in the evening light, which makes one wonder which side of the North Sea this was.

Strangely, no longer listed on their website!

Hatton's pricing is the subject of much discussion on the N-Gauge list. Looks like simple supply & demand to me.
