Great central rly Sharp stewart 0-6-0T

Post by Pre-Grouping Rail »

Hi everyone I hope some one out in the collective might be able to solve a sight problem. I'm developing a 7mm kit for a Sharp Stewart 0-6-0T bought by the Furness, Cambrian and (Manchester and Sheffield and Lincoln Rly) Great Central. I have details of the Furness and Cambrian locos but the GCR are a bit of a mystery. Any info would be much appreciated.

Marc,
I've just been looking for Sharp Stewart locos and can only find ...so far.. a number of MS&L class 23 060 outside framed tender locos dating back to 1866/67 from this builder....any further clues please ??......
Cheers Tony.

The loco is numbered 405B it would have been built somewhere around 1865-75 if the Furness and Cambrian locos are of the same date.

Marc,
right then !!!, No 405B was a 062 saddle tank built by Beyer Peacock and ex WM&CQ. However No 405C was a SS product and an 060 side tank loco !. This was also ex WM&CQ so was only GC from 1905. Built in 1880 initially No8 and named "Premier" it lasted until Sept 1922.
I know of two photos , GC vol3 ( Dow) p77 and Locos illustrated no 156 ( GCR 060 loco's) p 28/29.
Any help to you ???.....
Cheers Tony.

Marc,
that's GCR Vol 3 by George Dow....don't think Eddie Johnson has gotten around to GC loco's vol3 ...just yet !.
Despite the WM&CQ having only one of these locos did the Cambrian and Furness have Several ??...seems a very niche subject to choose in developing a kit !. Having said that there is a real lack of 'small' GC loco types for small 7mm shunting type layouts, certainly I know of a few people that would be interested.
Do you have photos of the Furness or Cambrian versions please ?.
Cheers Tony.

That's a great photo. it shows that at some point there has been a new boiler fitted as well as a more substantial cab.
