TORNADO FIRE LIT

Post by Bryan »

Am I correct in stating that the fire was lit for warming through on wednesday and full pressure is due today, Friday?

There was a full length version on the evening news, but this doesn't seem to be online, unless you watch the full 30 minutes.

The Old Lady lighting thr boiler on Wednesday (BTW) is the Widow of Mr AH Peppercorn.

I wondered, but surprised she's still alive. Peppercorn must have been younger than I thought.

I believe Riddles' widow is still alive and come to think of it they were contemporaries.

She was a great deal younger than him. I seem to recall reading that this caused a great deal of disapproval among his contemporaries.

Sometimes I'm pleased we have moved on.

Sorry I posted without watching the 'news' and it said it was still to come, but they missed it out.

Anyhow, she's called Mrs Dorothy Mather, and is pictured here

The A1 will appear in LNER lined green, but with 'BRITISH RAILWAYS' on the tender, this livery was chosen by Mrs D Mather as it was the livery in which the first A1s appeared in. Mrs D Mather is the President of the A1 Locomotive trust.

On another somewhat saddening note, I beleive that Mrs Riddles died recently.
