Steam videos - Union of South Africa

Post by sir visto »

This may have been posted before but has anyone seen the wonderful
video on You Tube of Union of South Africa hurtling through Chippenham
? It's a night time shot and exactly as I remember them in their
heyday. I particularly like the point when the station announcer is
saying "Please stand well back from ---WHOOSH --- and the A4 rockets past.
It's got everything - night time, glimmering lights, sheer dramatic
noise, doppler effect of the chime whistle. It seems that it was doing about 80mph.
To use a much hackneyed word - Awesome.
It can be found by the search facility under either - Union of South
Africa storms through Chippenham - or under the uploader - steam1989.

Enjoy

Stand well clear from the edge of platform 2, the approching train.....think he followed it with ...is going very fast!

That is awesome, and I have so many photos of Union at York, once, just once I'd like to hit Doncaster and do the very same.

Awesome indeed. Perhaps if anyone says to a steam railway enthusiast "I don't understand that enthusiasm" just show them that video. It's what it's all about.
