Can anyone confirm that the last J27 was withdrawn from service in 1967?

My main source says that 36 are still in service!! (it was published in summer 1966)

Richard,

I have several references to September 1967 as being the date, and one specifically says 9th September in the North East.

According to Longworth, 65811/55/79/82//94 were the last, in September 1967.

Thanks for the quick reply Colombo.

This was for the 0-6-0 index pages, where I've added the info for the NER 0-6-0s (companies, designer, dates, etc).

I've also added a post-it note to my RCTS book with the 9th September date - so I'll have it for the future.

Looking through the allocation/history info, I see it says that they were still being used extensively in the Blythe area and that they were expected to last until 1968!

Re the last ones to be withdrawn.
65894, which spent most of its BR days relatively comfortably at York, was the last to receive a non-superheated boiler, and three of the five to be withdrawn superheated were withdrawn after 65894 was reboilered.

It may be that 65894 was lucky to survive to (and beyond) the end.

(You pick up the Green Book and you can't put it down can you!)
