Last days of A2 No 60527 in Yorkshire???

Post by siranorak2 » Thu Jun 27, 2019 11:05 am

I have seen a photo of No 60527 allegedly taken in 1965 and apparently at Mirfield mpd. It has lost its name and numberplates and is 'spruced up' with white buffers, smokebox hinges etc. It looks withdrawn although rods are still on. All my research says that it was at Polmadie at the start of 1965, then set aside and withdrawn around May, then taken to Motherwell for scrap in the summer. So what was it doing in Yorkshire? Obvious explanation is that the photo was not taken at Mirfiedl but the surroundings of the loco with open inspection pits do look like other pix I have seen of Mirfield.
Any ideas from anyone?

Various LNER pacific visited Mirfield during the early/mid sixties after working freights to Healey Mills marshalling yard

I’m certain Sun Chariot would not have ventured further south than Darlington at this time. She was in for repair in 64 or 65 much to the delight of us local Spotters!
Luscious Scottish A2s coming to your doorstep (I.e. Darlington 51A deadline) after years of dreaming of their very existence
60528 & 60532 plus I think 60530 as well
But it would indeed be nice to see said photo to check for sure
