A1/A3 atomisers and anti-carbonisers

Post by johnadrianhurst »

Does anyone have any information about the design and use of these items? I know that there is a small wheel valve on the side of the smokebox and various bits of piping, but there seem to be as many variants in the piping arrangements as there are locomotives. I have many photographs of the locomotives but none is clear enough for me to draw a diagram.
Were the chimney and dome bolted and/or rivetted on?
