Great pics and a good reminder of the proper names before management got involved. I am trying to model as many as I can in 'as built' state. Woodcock, Capercaillie etc., it's just a prob getting the plates in N Gauge.

I'm cheating, I'm not a builder, but I found, if you get merlin, and take off the decals that aren't numbers, they are painted on, and leave a blank space, plus one the nameplates would not come off, and is in a thousand peices!

So I'm trying the as built in 00, so far I have 2512, and 4482 coming in the post!

Great breif bit of footage on Scottish Steam The A4s' final Years

You need to find books on the A4s, it will be easier for you.

The First 4
Silver Link 2509
Quicksilver 2510
Silver King 2511
Silver Fox 2512

were all painted in a 3 tone grey, not silver!

It is widly reported that when Gresleys Daughter saw the name plates she said it spoilt the sreamlining, so they were removed and painted on.

The next few afterwards cam out in Apple green with plates, and then Blue was chosen for the coronation service, then all the rest came out the same, and by 20th October 1938 the rest had been repainted to Blue, and the Silver ones had plates put back on.

Hope this helps
