J28 no. 2409

Post by upney sidings »

For more than a year I've been holding back a superb Casserley portrait of former H&BR no.2409 because I don't have the basic background for aviable caption. Would a fellow member be so kind as to delve into Yeadon for me please and tell me the build year, builder's name and withdrawal date?

I haven't got Yeadon but Baxter says: built 11/1911 by Kitsons, withdrawn 10/1937.

H&B no 17, NER 3017, LNER 2409.

One of ten of H&B L1 class (though some other classes were very similar). See LNER J28 for more details here. Main thing to note is that as a Stirling product it originally had a domeless boiler. Superheater removed 2/1922, domed boiler 6/1928.
