Green Arrow

Post by YNMR »

It unfortunatly looks like Green Arrow has been withdrawn from service early a problem has occured with the flue tubes in the boiler and as it is so near the end of its boiler ticket I understand that repairs are not to be undertaken :( :(

From an NYMR press release

Green Arrow has had to be taken out of service on The North Yorkshire Moors Railway with immediate effect. Leaking flue tubes mean that its boiler is not able to operate safely.
The engine will have its boiler inspected in the next day or so, but it does mean that it will definitely not be in traffic throughout this weekend’s LNER Steam Festival. This comes as a big disappointment to the Railway and the National Railway Museum, who own the locomotive.

Is she still staying at the NYMR until the 27th? If there is any news on her condition can you keep us updated, it would be great to get to see her in full flight.

GREEN ARROW - MAY BE FOR ONE MORE DAY?

Post by Bryan »

Copied from Nat pres site:-

Right then - it was hydrauclically tested I believe today...and all that passed off by the boiler inspector...so subject to a another steam test 2moro it should run on Saturday 26th April, and that will be the end.

It is hoped for it to run one and a half round trips, the half a trip leaving it at New Bridge ready for transportation to Shildon.

Our boilersmith is on that run (down on the roster as the 'Red Knicker Express') and if things do start going wrong (again!) then that'll be the end...

But, if things all go to plan next week...she'll pull into Pickering station, 17.40, one last time. I'll be there...will you?

Some repair work has been carried out by the NYMR's boiler team. The boiler has bassed it's hydraulic test, and was in steam yesterday, a decision is awaited on the full steam test. If the test is sucessful, the locomotive will haul one full round trip from Grosmont, and then haul the 17.40 arrival into Pickering, where it will terminate, this will leave it at the right end of the line for loading and transportation.
