Mobile deisel set no 953

Post by Tiptreeman »

Early LMS Diesel shunter 7055 was converted to a mobile power unit no MPU2 in 1940. It was transferred to the Eastern Region in 1952
In 1955 it was at Stratford works numbered 953 stencilled as mobile diesel set no 1... by 1960 it was stored next to departmental electric loco 100 (ex 26510) at Goodmays Yard....later used in the construction of the new Thornaby steam shed ...does anyone know of sightings, photographs and use whilst on former GER lines

Hi, I thought I remembered this loco #953,its in an old note book of mine, date not sure anytime from '56-'60,just the number stuck in my mind, have seen a picture but still had no recollection of it, I would have sighted this loco either @ Stratford(30A)or Ilford (TMD)never got to Goodmayes Yard between those dates, knew it wasnt an ex:Taff Vale tank ha!,the only number that could have matched? ,its previous numbers were 7055(LMS)/MPU2(?)&ADB968004,seen @ Derby&Crewe works in the'50's, it was used on the Shenfield/ Southend electrification works, withdrawn &scrapped in 1964, did it really get to Thornaby?any pictures? finally being written off as a ER "book" adjustment as ADB968004 in 1975!jj
