A4 Nameplates

Post by Darwin4975 »

Q1. The A4s generally were fitted with brass nameplates but the five which were produced for the 'Coronation' train (Nos 4488-92) were different from the rest in having stainless steel embellishments. Did the use of stainless steel extend to their nameplates?

Q2. When did the practise of painting the background of the nameplates in red commence, and which engines were so treated. Was it works policy to do this or the sheds? If the latter, which ones? I know that 60007 in Summer 1957 had a bright red background.
