4498 Sir Nigel Gresley

Post by hq1hitchin »

There is a very good article in the latest BRILL by Peter Steward, a Nine Elms bloke, who worked Sir Nigel Gresley on a special from W'loo to Bomo (for those who don't know, that's Southernspeak for Bournemouth) in 1967. They got to Hampton Ct. Junction in under 18 mins, quite acceptable for a steam loco. It also seems that when Nine Elms closed, the shed cat got a move to Selhurst, (poor thing - what a comedown), but sorted the rodents out there, no worries!
A topper is proper if the train's a non-stopper!
