A1/A3 How Many Spokes?
I cannot find a quick answer to this, so can anyone help? Photos have this info hidden.
I am building a David Andrews kit of an A3.
I'm looking for confirmation of the number of spokes on A1/A3 with GN tender. I have the following information, and have added the Slater's 7mm catalogue number when known.
Leading Bogie 3'-2" 10-spoke 7838G
Driving 6'-8" 20-spoke PB 13" 7880G
Trailing Pony 3'-8"
Tender 4'-2"
Can you fill the gaps? (Slater's do not seem to list a 3'-8" or a 4'-2" wheel. Suggestions for best alternative - best to go slightly smaller?

Trailing 3'8" 10 spokes
Tender 4'2" 12 spokes
I don't know if the had disc wheels fitted to the tenders later.
In general the railways allowed up to 3" for wear on the diameter, ahetr this the wheels were given new tyres.

Thank you Bill
That would seem to make the best Slater's matches as below:
Leading Bogie 3'-2" 10-spoke / Slater's 7838G => exact match
Driving 6'-8" 20-spoke PB 13" / Slater's 7880G => exact match
Trailing Pony 3'-8" 10-spoke / Slaters 7843 => 3'-7" 10-spoke (General Pattern)
Tender 4'-2" 12-spoke / Slater's 7849 => 4'-1" 12-spoke (GWR Tender) - [any GWR-ness probably not visible behind tender axle boxes] or Slater's 7851 => 4'-3" 12-spoke (General Pattern) - [would match Pony profile, oversize but probably plenty of clearance in the tender, which has all four axles better contained / aligned than Bogies/Ponys]

I'd take the 4'1" tender wheels.Quainton Road wrote: Tender 4'-2" 12-spoke / Slater's 7849 => 4'-1" 12-spoke (GWR Tender) - [any GWR-ness probably not visible behind tender axle boxes] or Slater's 7851 => 4'-3" 12-spoke (General Pattern) - [would match Pony profile, oversize but probably plenty of clearance in the tender, which has all four axles better contained / aligned than Bogies/Ponys]

He didn't, but he did publish a book 'Wheel Specifications for the Modeller' which has all the wheels from most locos listed.Joseph P.Keegan wrote:Evening everybody

Cannot get to this info on AG site at the moment, but will look again.Joseph P.Keegan wrote:
Did you look at the Alan Gibson 7 mm wheels range ?
You could try AGH wheels if you have a deep pocket.
Regards.
Joe Keegan.
Pockets have been sewn over by Management.
Thanks for the ideas.
