There is a full description of the damage caused by the air raid, which occurred in tn early hours of 29th April 1942, in Backtrack for August 2000.

There is even a photo of 4469 partly covered by wreckage. Unfortunately the photo is monochrome and no lining is visible. Plain back was specified for all repaints from November 1941. The loco does not appear to be plain black, but then again it was probably covered in dust and soot by the explosions. It may have still been in blue. Anyone who has a copy of the relevant Yeadon's register will presumably be able to deduce the correct livery.

The other locomotive that had to be scrapped was B16/1 no 925.

The locos that were repaired were:

A3 2597
O4 6283
V2s 3660, 4776/98, 4808/61/72
D49s 222/88
B16 2363
C6 698
C7 728, 2163
K3 1345
Q6 1262
J27 2352
J39 3091
and Y8 559

Can I say BR 60006 didn't get bombed, 60006 is 4466, it was 4469 that was bombed (pre renumbering)

Yeadons (open on my desk in front of me) says she was Unlined Black LNER (she didn't get to Unlined Black NE)

Bombed at York 29/04/1942
Condemned at Doncaster 29/04/1942
Cut up at Doncaster Works 20/06/1942

Tender 5672 was put aside in Doncaster Works for 3 1/2 years, then repaired and came out att he end of December 1945 on Thompson's A2/1 class No.3696

One of the nameplates got bent and went "missing".

It turned up recently, about 60 years later, having been found buried under or in a shed in a back garden on the other side of the River Ouse from the York Depot.
