4472 Flying Scotsman builders/running plates

Post by Points »

Does anyone have a clear photo showing the wording detail of these two oval plates which is positioned either side of the smoke box?

Think they say something like 'London North Eastern, Doncaster 1923' do they also have 4472?

Weren't the originals lost or something?

Top and bottom lines follow the plate, there is a line under the small 'o' of No and Co

Thanks for that, though I've just scoured the Doncaster Works info which notes the frame number of 4472 being 'Don 1564/23' and I've just found a photo of the plate which shows 1564, have a look 3/4 down this link where the oval plate can be seen

How did you come by No.1539, is the guys photo in the link incorrect for being that of 4472's works plate?

Does anyone know what font (typeface) is used for these plates? It's not Gill Sans as in the nameplates.
I want to make a replica.
