This is another post intended to test the new file attachment modification for the forums.

The attached file is a recording of an A4 Chime Whistle. This is a duplicate of the one on the A4 page.

For the record, a third chime whistle recording has been added to the A4 page:

Thanks to Geoff Byman for this additional recording!

Richard,

I am afraid that Geof's sound clip does not work. I get a message that software updates are needed from Real, and another that says that none are available.

Hi Colombo,

I think that must be a problem with Real Audio?

The sound file is a "wav" file like the other two. I have it working here in Firefox and Internet Explorer which are both calling QuickTime (Real/QuickTime/Microsoft all seem to over-install over each other so I never know which I have!). I've just tried it locally with Microsoft Media Player and that is okay as well.

You could try Right Clicking on the link, and selecting "Save Target As..." in Internet Explorer. Then try running it locally with the Microsoft player.

Geoff: Did you encode it in any special way that might give Real a problem?

I did, and it worked. Thanks for that, its a good one.

I suppose I need to get that recording onto a chip and a play it automatically when my A4s go past on the model railway. That could be a challenge for my son.

Just dropped onto this one - the answer that you asked Richard about any special encoding is - no - it was just recorded as a wav and then as an mp3 as well. The software is about 3 years old on that one so it should play in just about anything.

Coloumbo, good idea - I actually use it on one of my computers as the windows opening sound! :D

The tip Richard gave was a good one.

I right clicked and clicked Save As, it then opened up the box saying Open, Open Folder or Close, I clicked open and windows media player played it

I have Union of South Africa at York last December, very long, and very loud, but this new fangeled computer doesn't want to record it off mini disc like the 3 1/2 year old one did!

Add to thiss, that just before I got to work (it's early here!) I recorded it finally, but it's too big to add here, so I send it on to Richard by mail

Richard can't seem to hear it right, although I can with the volume down.
I will try it at work tomorrow to see if it works there.
I have now got home from work, and uploaded it to t'internet
http://www.a4s.me.uk/unionofsouthafrica.wav

It's 9 seconds long, and has a bit of the steam noise on it.
Just right click on it, and click open, it plays fine in t'internet explorer on mine.
