I am trying to find out exactly what colour was "BR purple". I produce colour illustrations as a hobby and would very much like to complete my collection of A4's and A3's in all their colour transitions. But BR purple is defeating me. I was out of the country during the period of "purple" so never saw it.
Any reference will do, eg, RGB, Pantone, etc, etc.
Thanks
Don

I have never seen a colour photograph of a purple A4 - although four such engines did exist. Even the original Express Blue pictures are fairly rare.

There is a good colour photo of 60028 in purple in Peter Townend's book The A4 pacifics published by Ian Allen. the reference given is
J.M.Jarvis/ Colour Rail BRE 159.
You should be able to get a copy from Colour rail.

Do Colour Rail have a website? I thought they did, but I can't seem to find it...
