LNER Preserved A4's

Post by karlrestall »

Can anyone tell me what tenders go with the preserved A4's, the correct livery, (if I have got it wrong below) and the chimney i.e. single or double?

LNER 4468 Mallard Garter Blue Corridor Tender
BR 60008 Dwight D Eisenhower BR Green
BR 60010 Dominion of Canada BR Green
BR 60009 Union of South Africa BR Green Corridor Tender
BR 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley BR Blue Corridor Tender
BR 60019 Bittern BR Green None Corridor Tender

Mallard doesn't, it has Tender Nº5670 – 1936 Non Corridor Streamlined Type, which has been renumbered 5642

DWIGHT D EISENHOWER has Tender Nº5671 – 1936 Non Corridor Streamlined Type

SIR NIGEL GRESLEY has Tender Nº5324 -1928 Corridor Type

UNION OF SOUTH AFRICA has Tender Nº5484 – 1928 Corridor Type

BITTERN has Tender Nº5638 – 1936 Non Corridor Streamlined Type - now converted to Corridor status

DOMINION OF CANADA has Tender Nº5326 -1928 Corridor Type

FLYING SCOTSMAN has Tender Nº5325 - 1928 Corridor Type.

The water carrier is/was Tender Nº5332 – 1928 Corridor Type

Ah right

They all except Mallard have the tender they finally finished with after Union of south Africa lost hers to Flying Scotsman for the water carrier, and took over the W1s spare tender.

But with tenders you can open a can of worms, with Scotsman, having smoke deflectors, it should have a non corridor, but in BR livery, and a corridor in LNER livery, which is one huge chunk that would be wrong in BR livery!

The only 2 authentic are the 2 expats, which are untouched since being shipped, so are phisically correct.

Oh and the chimneys, they are all double, Mallard was built with one, and the rest are in BR livery.
