NYMR teak train grows!
You may have been following the progress of restoration work on Thompson 1623 on here. It is now in the final stages of restoration and it is hoped to return it to traffic for the NYMR Autumn Steam Gala. There's more good news though, as it is also hoped that Gresley Dia 114BTK 3669, which is also in the final throes of restoration to the LNERCA's exacting standards by its private owners at a site near Bridlington and is due to move to the NYMR shortly, will make its debut at the same time. This will bring the teak train up to 8 coaches (seven Gresley, one Thompson) without including non-corridor Thmpson CL 88339, which is currently out of traffic awaiting repairs. A sight for to behold for LNER Connoisseurs!

Excellent.
Will the set be running on a regular basis, or maybe just at special events?

Re: NYMR teak train grows!
The whole idea of what the LNERCA is up to is to quoting their banner headline from there website; .....The LNER Coach Association was formed in 1980 with the objectives of obtaining, restoring and operating a collection of ex-LNER and / or constituent companies vehicles. It also provides an umbrella organisation for members with privately owned LNER and / or constituent companies vehicles for eventual use on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.strang steel wrote:Excellent.

So yes these coaches will be used a long side the MK1s based/used by the NYMR. Granted the likes of the Great Northern Saloon is more of a "specialist" coach which can be operated on it's own for "private" parties i.e Birthday/Wedding/Retirement parties, whatever does' as it has a small kitchen and brake for the guard. ok it can still be used with the main set as well.

The LNER set has been and will continue to be used on a regular basis. At the moment Gresley vehicles are only operating in a mixed formation due to various coaches being stopped for maintenance.strang steel wrote:Excellent.

56856 Minor repairs and re-varnish.
641 Steam heat repairs.
43567 Accident damage. Should return to Pickering shortly.
23956 Should then also pay a visit to the paint shop.
There's still lots to do on 1623 and 3669 and more volunteers would be welcomed to help get both vehicles running for the Autumn! As would donations to the LNER Coach Association to ensure 1623 doesn't stall!
I am very hopeful that we can see an eight coach LNER train hauled by both an A1 and an A4 this year.

Re: NYMR teak train grows!
Caught a glimpse of 1623 on the lifts last weekend. What is the dark coloured Gresley which is now outside the workshop and looks as if it may be next in line? The car park side is completely boarded over and I couldn't make out at all what it had been.
Re: NYMR teak train grows!
The dark-painted coach next to the C & W shed with boarded up windows is the LNERCA-owned ex-Woolwich Museum Dia 10 RF and is currently on loan to the NYMR for use as an upholstery workshop. It's not currently in the restoration queue but is one for the longer term. The next two to be worked on once 1623 and 3669 are complete will be Thompson CK 18477 and ECJS 189, providing we are successful in grant applications. After them, Gresley TTO 24109 and TK 23896 will enter the frame, and the NYMR-owned TTO 43632 is likely to be the subject of a grant application to restore it with adaptations to permit its use by disabled people. The latter is not an LNERCA project but I think it is fair to say that we're likely to have a substantial input.

Re: NYMR teak train grows!
Thanks for that. ECJS 189 is that clerestory which stood at The Plant for ages after the last big open day? I shall very much look forward to a ride in that.
Re: NYMR teak train grows!
It is indeed - it has been at Pickering for the last couple of years but sheeted over for most of the time. To restore it properly, with Pullman gangways fitted, it will have to be mounted on a different underframe which is what we're applying for grants for at the moment. There is relatively little to do on the interior, but what there is will all be expensive - new replica oval back chairs, ornate gas light fittings and unusual wire mesh luggage racks all to make from scratch, with only photos to work from (as far as we know!). It'll be a challenge but an interesting one and will extend the range of the LNERCA collection 10 years further back in time.
Hopefully there will be another interesting announcement from the LNERCA in the next few days - watch this space!

As a slight aside to this NYMR TV has just released its latest episode with a feature on the work of the LNERCA.

Re: NYMR teak train grows!
Gre Gresley BTO 43567 arrived back on the NYMR today following completion of underframe repairs at Rampart C & W, Barrow Hill. Also loaded today, but not due to be unloaded till tomorrow morning, was Gresley BTK 3669, which has been restored at a farmyard site near Bridlington. Both vehicles need more work before re-entering service but it is hoped that they'll both be running in time for the NYMR Autumn Steam Gala, together with Thompson TK 1623 and the rest of the teak train.
Re: NYMR teak train grows!
3669 leaving its restoration site this afternoon, I suspect the rush hour traffic on the York bypass did not rush quite so much today!https://sites.google.com/site/rossstewa ... t/home/url]
