The D29s and D30s

Post by Frazmataz »

Can anyone point out any external detail differences between the D29 'Scotts' and the D30 'Superheated Scotts'? They don't seem to look any different in the photos I have seen, and I'm hoping to adapt a 4mm model of the D29 from the PDK D30.

The piston valves were moved above the cylinders, so the boilers were lifted slightly - but I can't see much difference on the two pictures on this site.

The smokebox also looks a little longer on the superheated version - as was often the case.

I see. So, would the difference in height and length of the boiler be that noticable on a 4mm model? :?

Diferences in the D29's are minimal but are as follows: round cab front windows, reversing bar completely external, taller chimney and dome (i think). These differences also apply to the D33's which are earlier versions of the D34 'Glen'. Incidentally 2411 Lady Of Avenel' had its smokebox extended 6" in an experiment to stop the smokebox door burning. Also PDK actually do a D29.
