Could it be from a Flaman recording speedometer?

? Am I seeing a different link? When I follow that above, I get a picture of Mallard's speed recorder and a short piece which includes the following:

"it is not the original. The Flamans in all of the A4s were removed in WW2 as there weren’t the resources to keep using the recordings (they used a lot of paper and staff time to check them). This one was fitted by Doncaster works when Mallard was preserved and was sourced in France. The speed dial had to be made from scratch because the French one was in kilometres per hour."

I was replying to Bryan's post about the paper roll he has;- 'used on the Flying Scotsman'

Figured maybe it is a Flaman roll rather than a dynamometer one.

The roll in question is approx 2ft wide.
Looking at what appears to be the roll in the Flamman equipment that looks about 4 inch wide.
Will try and photo and post tomorrow.

The wooden centre runs full length through the roll and does not appear to slide out in any way, so the paper must have been loaded on to this core.
Seems strange.

Is there any reference number on the roll? If there is I can match to the log entries in the Dynamometer Car log book.

Jim's D&S Dyno Car done.

I could not find any pre war photos which showed the Car lined out in Yellow . The one well known photo off the Car coupled to Mallard at the time of the Record run show what might be lining on some of the panels but not on others I have taken it to be light reflection.
I have painted the Roof as per the preserved version in the same photo the Roof is all one colour. I cannot see any reason why it would have been Red Oxide. In my opinion when restored the original colours would have been copied and see no reason otherwise.
In the same photo I have my doubts that it was actually Teak finished it looks more like one colour but again I have used the current Dyno Car livery for the build.

Some incredibly useful photos here.

Pity NRM doesn't allow clear interior shots.

I have been looking through my photos from my time working at the NRM. I used to go in and out of the Dyno car regularly but seem to have taken nearly no photos!

However these two may be of interest:

There is a chapter/piece in a book, journal or magazine that is all about the Dynamometer Car, illustrated with numerous photographs, but I cannot remember where - not a helpful post in that way, but it might just trigger someone's memory of which publication.
