I have been going through Neil's photographs of the A3s, and there's some real gems in there.

There is one photo that is bothering me though as I am unsure if I am interpreting some parts of the locomotive incorrectly.

https://railway-photography.smugmug.com ... -xszRwgt/A

This photograph of Tagalie at Haymarket shed shows it in BR apple green livery (LNER but BR numbering and branding).

What is throwing me somewhat is the cab - it appears to have a lower cab cut-out than I was expecting (looks like the original, lower cut-out than the later, higher cut-out). Is this an optical illusion caused by the type of cab she's attached to, or is this a supremely rare example of a Gresley A3 with an original lower cab cut-out, post 1948?

My gut feeling is this is an optical illusion but it looks supremely odd to my eyes!

I wish there were a few on the Great Central, I'd have thought the Master Cutler would have been photographed back in the '50's

Thanks for that, I think Prince Palatine would have been in the blue livery at that time, I didn't see the Master Cutler until the end of the train in the mid 1950's. Flying Fox was one I recall seeing hauling the train one summer.
