I have added some new photos given to me by Alan Costello, including Gresleys rebuilt W1 60700, (sadly not a good photo, but the only pic i have of this loco)

It kind of looks like Take Me By The Flying Scotsman Poster, for your British Railway Stories. Well to me anyway. Good luck with getting the book published in print.
You've even persuaded me to write my own stories, currently working on one now

60700 spent much of it's time in the late 50's and early 60's as standby at Doncaster,
seen on a number of trips waiting for work, so to speak. Only time we saw it move was when
60080 Shotover( I think) came in on a London bound train with a hot axle. the W1 came on and
departed asap with much speed. Train was well late and driver set out to make up time.
Was said by people who seemed to know about these things that it would be hard work for the fireman as it had a huge coal consumption.

60700 was withdrawn in June 1959 having been in the Plant 'on decision' for a few weeks prior to that.
Following its transfer to Doncaster in October 1953 60700 worked a regular diagram 1006 Doncaster – KX and 1550 return. It was on this return working when it was derailed at Peterborough on 1st September 1955 due to a fracture of the leading bogie frame. The loco was repaired at the Plant resuming its roster in December 1955.
This is accurate information taken from the RCTS Locomotives of the LNER Part 6C.
The information in these green books being sourced largely from the RCTS monthly magazine Railway Observer which contained thousands of contemporaneous reports and sightings from members.

Finally - when I used to trainspot at Doncaster in the 1950's 60080 carried the name Dick Turpin.
Shotover was 60081.

69999. I will go along with you on that, she was regular on the 10:06 Kings Cross train. She was repaired after her little accident at Peterborough, returned to traffic, and was eventually withdrawn 01/06/1959 and was cut up by 30/06/1959.

You could well be right on the date,it was 50+ years ago, probably late 50's.
Whenever we went to Doncaster 60700 was the standby engine. First thing we did on arrival
was to check and see.I assume it had other duties , but when we were present it was always in place.
I am happy to stand corrected .

In the early/mid fifties ,the 10.06 ex Doncaster would fit in with my memories of her heading, from Doncaster to KX the combined 8.30(?) ex Hull and ex Leeds(?) on more than a few occasions.

Anyone know the correct dates when 60700 was being cut up?.
It is often quoted as 30 June 1959, but it was still complete, less front number plate on 26 July 1959.

In case you don't already know a location for a particular one of these, in the second of the three pages of images here, the 5th ('21 of35'), of "60023 Golden Eagle", looks to me like a Down train entering Doncaster station.

In these, page 1 of 4, the 8th ('16 of 56'), of ("61070 various locations"), pretty sure this train is on the Down Fast approaching Greenwood.

Right you are, Steve. The shot after that, of Falcon, I think is on the down fast at the northern end of the Digswell bottleneck, approaching the Great North Road bridge.
