2544 should be 'Lemberg', not Lembeck (or Lemburg, as the second photo says...)

That photo of Night Hawk - ex-NER bowstring carriage (diner?) second vehicle back, folowed by a Tourist twin? Some sort of special or excursion, presumably.

Interesting steel brake carriage in the picture of Shotover as well.

Jonathan

I cannot at the moment give you chapter and verse but I am pretty sure that this was one of the NER built compo diners which was cascaded down to tourist traffic and painted green and cream to match the tourist stock of which there appears to be a part rake in this train.

Talking of Felstead I have a vague idea that it was mentioned, as being "jinxed" when in Doncaster Works for repair, in the memoirs or recollections of a former Plant worker. It appears that it was usually this loco when an accident happened in the Crimpsall. Does anyone else remember hearing or seeing this story?

Jonathan,

A copy of the photo appears in Part 2A of the green bibles, figure 90. Described as an Up express near Darlington, taken in May 1934. That may just help with identifying what the Diagram 45 is doing?

I am thinking 'near Darlington' means south of there, but not as far as Croft Spa? The track is more or less north-south in alignment. Which would make the photo a mid to late afternoon shot.

It is not a front line East Coast set of carriages for May 1934. Could it be the 1.30pm, or thereabouts, from Edinburgh, with through carriages from Glasgow? If so was there a BCK from Glasgow to Scarborough during this period? The fact that No.180 is still in East Coast stock makes me wonder if this is correct.
