GNoER/N&DJR Loco

Post by 52D »

Ive mentioned this loco before and in my opinion it should have been saved and rebuilt in a similar manner to the Furness Railway loco. It preceded the LNER by 103 years and outlasted the LNER by a further 20 years, R Stephenson 2-4-0 works No.491 GNoER/N&DJR No.30 finally sold out of service by the NER as a much rebuilt 0-6-0T No.30A in 1898 to Lambton Hetton & Joicey being scrapped as NCB No.27 circa 1966.

Overall It has a slight resemblance to a Midland/LMS Jinty although not so much in the upper part of the cab and the side tanks are a bit higher.

Not for lack of trying by the NCB, it was taken out of service in 63 and they held on for 5 years and tried to find someone to preserve it before eventually giving up and scrapping it.

If only...
