3290 at King's Cross on streamliner set

Post by robertcwp »

I purchased this negative with rights to use:

Image3290_KingsCross by Robert Carroll, on Flickr

3290 at King's Cross.

It appears to have brought in a train of streamlined stock, possibly the spare set if the roofboards are anything to go by. No information came with the negative. The image is a bit fuzzy as it seems to have suffered from camera-shake.

Grateful for any further information.

Robert,

It is an intriguing picture. Circa 1938 is a possible. No Class designation on the bufferbeam.

Interesting photo. When Mallard failed following its speed run the train was towed back to Kings Cross by Atlantic 3290. Suspect this is a photograph of that event.

But wouldn't the dynamometer car have been on the front? From another photo I have seen taken on the same day, it's the full 8-car spare set.

On another pic I have seen the time on the clock says 2.53pm, and there looks like there could be an A4 at the head of the train, although it's very indistinct.

Hi Dave,

I can see what you are getting at. There does seem to be something beyond the 8-car set.

Robert is correct the dynamometer car was at the front of the record run set hauled by 3290.
