Wonderful! Thank you.
Ref the photo of Mallard undergoing restoration in 1963 towards the end with the bloke in the grease top with the angle-grinder and fag. His name is Roy Platt sadly no longer with us. I met him when he’d moved to York carriage works and we did a bit on 60019 & 60532 at York shed around 1969. His stories of life at The Plant were amazing to this (then) 18 year old. Very funny bloke’s banter.
I bumped into him a few years later in a York city centre street and he had no idea who I was or what time we’d had together.
Sad, but still a bit of a hero
I think he returned to Donny and helped on 4472 & 4498 in the 80s

Lovely story, StaffordA4. Thank you.

A couple of things that stood out for me in those photos. One was that I never knew V2 Green Arrow originally had its nameplates on the centre splashers. Two, who the heck were Davina and Bryan (the names on a couple of A4's? )

Davina and Bryan , children of Charles Newton . Engine mocked up with wooden name plates and number their date of birth .

If you care to have a look at the link below, you'll find more of the background to the temporary name change:-

Thanks for the explanation, harvester. The liberties you can take when you're da boss, eh?

And thanks, 2392, for that link. I'll have a butcher's later.
