Looking at the first photo of Gresley in BR blue. Could it be Rugby as the loco was used to "test" the new rolling road at it's official opening. The testing station I believe being a joint LNER/LMS venture, that had been delayed by the WW2. The loco being used in memory of the late Sir Nigel Gresley.

Sorry to gatecrash someone else's thread (and not even a colour photo), but it saves starting a new one just for one photo.

I have posted this elsewhere, but I thought everyone here would like to see 60028 'Walter K Whigham' passing Doncaster with what looks like 14 bogies, circa 1961. There is a wealth of detail in the background which shows just how much we have lost in the last 60 years or so.

That's a nice view. I was a signalman at Donny for 30 years and it's a view I was used to seeing out of the window, although down the years the Plant steadily went downhill. It looks really untidy now. Most of the windows in the offices were boarded up and it looks a mess.
There's some interesting details here;
The DMU in the platform has two tail vans, it looks like a gas wagon in the bay and I'm not sure what to make of the coach also in the bay platform. Is it an inspection coach?

I think the fish vans are empty and have been attached to the class 114 DMU which is heading for Grimsby.

I was told that the inspection saloon was converted from a GNR ambulance car, but I'm not sure of the truth of this.

With good eyesight it is possible to see in the distance a brand new EE Type 4 diesel outside the works towards the left.
