I have always admired the collection of postcards by Mike Morant and sent out requests to friends to send me any they had. After a long silence, these came to me today from Holland.
All from the Locomotive Publishing Company in London.
I don't know the dates of publishing, but they are quite nice.
This is the first of two posts (six cards so I have split them).

Just to show I haven't neglected the GER. Some more postcards arrived today.
20 in all, but I'll only post the GER ones at the moment.
Quite a coincidence here. I have the original photos these cards were based on.

Yup. Something strange about the first two postcards of Newcastle.

The first shows an A4 coming into the station from the North. The loco is an A4, which is after 1935.
BUT.
The diamond crossing shows the Pre-1904 layout. The crossing from platform 1 & 2 (and the bay roads) was lifted in that year.

The second shows an LMS tank bringing stock into the station from the High Level Bridge.

Probably artistic licence with the first, the second shows an LMS class 4 coming off the high level. A number of these were based at Gateshead during the mid fifties.

Remember the one you posted of the diamond crossing at Newcastle, 52A?
I found this in my collection.

Malcolm.

I would say that the A4 picture is a copy of the one you have just posted, there are so many similaritys.

I believe there were 3 Ivatts at Whitby as well. Plus some Fairburn tanks.

Wonder if the LMS design Class 4MT is approaching the Central on a Middlesbrough -Newcastle service. These engines made appearances - together with V1/3s ,A8s etc - on these trains up until the dieselisation of the service with DMUs in November 1955 and even after this on certain trains. On July 20th ,1957 had one on the 21.25 Newcastle -Middlesbrough, possibly a strengthened formation, as it was Durham Miner's Gala day that year. Rememember a 4MT tank on a Newcastle - Middlesbrough getting into an altercation with a light engine V2 on the diamond crossing around about 1954, with photos in Trains Illustrated.
