Re: Another Mystery
When did she gain a second tender i thought that was 1967? and surely the Deltic would be in two tone green 1965.

Re: Another Mystery
I attach poor photo I took waiting till late for this train to appear at Aycliffe. .
Also photo of Scotsman on the morning at Stockton watering up in preperation to take over from Peak D175 on northbound leg of this tourRe: Another Mystery
Wonder why 4472 is blowing off steam at Aycliffe, given her "delicate" condition? Let the Deltic take the strain chaps!
Re: Another Mystery
Depends which tube was burst, if it was on the steam/superheater line that would't affect the ability to boil water, until the regulator was opened. Thank you Sedgefield and everyone else for your help in solving my mystery photo!

Re: Another Mystery
If the Deltics train heating boiler was u/s maybe they are using 4472 for steam heating.

Re: Another Mystery
Or is it!? This postcard was posted in August 1939. A silver A4 and is that a royal train?
Re: Another Mystery
Interesting: Wonder if the A4 might be 2511 'Silver King' of 52A, which was the last one of the original four to remain in this livery, June 1938.

Re: Another Mystery
52A is probably correct in saying that its a royal Train with a scruffy luggage van bringing up the rear. World War 2 was due to start the next month so i am assuming it is an earlier picture than the posted date.
Judging by the vegetation around i think we have a Royal Train en route for Aberdeen then Royal Deeside sometime in the summer months of the late 1930s and with stemboks information about 2511 being the last of the class in this colour June 1938 we can probably say pic was taken around 1935 - 37.
I like to think King George has just taken in the 1937 Cup Final and is off on his hols to Balmoral.

Re: Another Mystery
Coincedentally with 52As shot above i have just found this postcard at the same location and want to point readers to the front bufferbeam. It looks like Gresleys 2577 bufferbeam has been painted Darlington style and has been given the class designation for Ravens pacifics class 4. 6. 2.
Any comments?
A puzzeled 52D.

Re: Another Mystery
The NE area A1s built by NBLC -of which 2577 is one -were maintained at Darlington up until March 1930 when Doncaster took over. Note lack of front footsteps at this time and also the Westinghouse air brake hose beneath the buffer beam which the NE area engines had until around 1933-35, being dual fitted.
