Tweedmouth shed blaze pictures

Post by 52D »

Berwick spotter sent me some pictures of the suspicious fire at the former Tweedmouth roundhouse. It looks as though there is nothing left but Demolition.
For you enthusiasts that dont know much about Tweedmouth here is a short history. The first shed buildings were put up by the York Newcastle & Berwick Railway. It was an important shed as The Royal Border Bridge had not been completed and passengers for Edinburgh got off the train at Tweedmouth and crossed the river by coach to Berwick station. In LNER days Tweedmouth was one of the locations for the East coast Standing Pilot as well as having its own local freight and passenger workings. The shed complex eventually comprised three buildings a 2 road repair shed, a 4 road straight shed and the roundhouse with a coaling stage and an external turntable. The roundhouse was the last part of the MPD still standing.

Manna i have no good external shots of the Roundhouse as it was a bit awkward to access but here are some shots inside the roundhouse and around the yard. If you look on the map the roundhouse is furthest south. The map is pre grouping and does not show the later external turntable.
