Funny enough ff i have seen myself as a nipper on a couple of pics at Alnmouth when Bittern still in BR service ran a special south through Alnmouth in about 1966. It were grand as they say in Yorkshire as the loco had to make an unscheduled stop to take on water, something must have gone wrong earlier as Lucker troughs were only 20 miles or so back. It was lucky there was still a working water column as Alnmouth shed had only been closed a short while. The train disgorged hundreds of enthusiasts who didnt waste a chance to take a pic.

Same on Teesside, remember also you've got to be carefull should you mistake a Makam (Wearside) for a Geordie (Tyneside), seen many a fight over this ! Same thing is also to the lesser folk, all southerners are Cockneys

G'Day Gents
Wifes from Spennymoor, so god only knows what she is,'cept the 'wife', but her uncle rung her one night and I answered the phone, thought there was a drunken lunatic on the phone, could'nt understand a word that was being said, I was about to hang up when I managed to hear one 'English' word---WAIT, so I did, then a womans voice came over the phoneline in a broad North Eastern accent 'Is our Janice there'-----' it's for you dear' as I gladly handed the phone over to her.
Strange as it may seem, she dose'nt have a accent normally, but as soon as you rile a bit, I can't understand a word she say's, and probably better off not knowing???
manna

PS did an A4 ever make it up the Spennymoor line?

With all this talk on accents, if you can remember my postings on the Willington accident the inscription on the drivers tombstone is incorrect with Willington being spelled Wellington and the number being 184 instead of 104.
The only thing i can put this down to is a Geordie verbally giving the order to make the inscription and a Berwick stonemason listening and writing down what he thought Geordie had said then doing the work.

Manna & 52D,,, how right you are I'm born & bred Slaggy Island but come across a real broad Middlesbrough accent and they talk so fast even the locals cant understand a word! Manna, the late wife was the same as your's although you could understand the "F & B" words!!! ( been wondering if Ferrybribridge has a sore shutter finger yet? )

Mr B ,,, Let the train take the strain ,,, less fuss by bus !
