What was the SECR D 4-4-0 doing at Liverpool Street, and when? Anyone know?

Regarding the posting by Kudu, it is interesting to note that the S.E & C.R. 4-4-0 locomotive at Liverpool Street is carrying the "Royal Train" headcode. This feature may have something to do with the appearance of this unusual locomotive at the "foreign" station.

Sometimes there are more questions than there are answers!

A 'special' trip, exploiting the connection between the GE main line and the East London line, at Bishopsgate Low Level / Wheler Street / Brick lane / Shoreditch*, and onwards towards the New Cross's perhaps?

Although fotopic has now gone, I know of two photos of Wainwright's SE&CR class D1 4-4-0s at Liverpool Street. One (and perhaps both) was taken by Ken Nunn of No.740 on a Dover to Wolferton royal train in 1912. Whether it came through the Thames Tunnel under it's own steam, or was piloted by a condensing tank - who knows, but I suspect the latter as the GER (1906) Appendix to the WTT was quite specific, and cites no exceptions for specials or royal trains: Condensing equipment must be used both in the tunnel, and at Wapping station. I doubt any Appendices relevant to other co-lessees of the ELR were any different.
