It looks a bit too flat for High Dyke, although 63936 was a long term Grantham loco.

Thank you to you both for your reply to the above image. Some more investigation then but I didn't think it was Grantham.

I think the image of 60010 was taken at Doncaster probably when it was in for attention 5th March 1962. I came across this image and the location looks identical even looking at the telegraph pole and wires.

I've just picked up a copy of the February issue of Steam Days magazine where there's an evocative article by David Martin titled A Day Trip to Grantham: 1961. The author describes a typical day's outing by bus and train from his home in Nottingham to Grantham station, accompanied by some great photographs, and he very kindly gives this thread a mention. So thanks for that David, and a warm welcome to any new readers. If you've got this far I hope you enjoyed the journey.
Here are a couple of photos of spotters at Grantham which I don't think I've posted here yet. If you recognise anyone in them please get in touch.

Three spotters and a trolley on platform 2 (now platform 1) at Grantham on 9th April 1964. Note the advert for the British Transport Commission's railway museums at York and Swindon. If today you enter the doorway to the Inspectors' Room, behind the boys, you'll find yourself walking into the 'Country and Equestrian Department' of an estate agent. How things change.

This lad may be from the Notts. area. It's hard to be certain, but one of the numbers in his book could be 44248 - a Nottingham-based 4F. Date: 15th August 1963.

Oh yes, drainpipe jeans. I remember those and the ten minutes they took to get over my ankles before going to bed.

Mallard's comment about his first WD sighting and reference to GW locos has reminded me of my earliest 'disaster' as a young spotter, probably also around 1959 or '60. It was the sight of my first ever GW loco - a Hall - on the GC just north of Leicester station crossing the bridge over the river. It was so filthy that, from where I was standing below, and against the light, I could read neither its number nor its name. How I cursed the GW for its cast numberplates. I was inconsolable for days!

I'll put up some more photos from Grantham in the next day or two.
