When RNF was first named it had a badge (St George and the Dragon). This seems to have disappeared from the loco during or before the Blue period and there are no signs of the mounting holes. Anyone have any ideas as to when the badge was removed (and why)?

The original naming was by FM Sir Francis Festing and there is an offical photo of it in my collection.

ISTR Festing was RNF Colonel at one time. I think the Nameplates are in the RNF museum at Alnwick castle i dont know about the badge i definitely remember it.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

Yes, Franky Festing was Colonel of the Fifth Fusilers, and they were absorbed into the Fusilier Brigade with The Lancashire Fusiliers (Class 45) and the Royal Fusilers (Class 45) and the odd one out , The Royal Warwicks (Also Class 45) in 1958 although the Fusilier Brigade badge did not change until the early 60's and they became 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th Battalion RRF on September 1967.

Now reduced to 1st and 2nd RRF. The RNF polished George and Dragon seems to have disappeared.

According to Frank Burridge's Nameplates of the Big Four, 55 011 never carried a regimental crest in service.
Nor did 55 002/05 & 17...

It certainly did at naming. Photo is copyright otherwise I would post it, plus the fact that I was at the naming!
