Manna,I am collecting old photos of Selby's railway environment so,by any chance, do you know the date of when your Selby photo was taken?

Sorry 50C, I don't have a date, at a guess 1890-1905, I'll keep an eye open for any more though :D

The Selby pic is before about 1910 as the Selby North box is clearly an earlier pattern of box than the Selby North box which existed (disused) till the early 1980's.

I'm a bit too young to remember the old type north signalbox!!! but the bookstall (which I think was W H Smith) on the down platform was still there in the 1950,s as we used to buy our ABC spotting books from it.

Ken Hoole's book "Railway History In Pictures North-East England" has a photo of the original Bascule Bridge at Selby and a photo of the swing bridge not long after opening - on the latter you can see an old disused signalbox on the original course of the line over the bascule bridge.

Re the RODs at Tattenham Corner, I've seen the picture and similar ones before .
There were 50 or more engines there at one time, does anyone know for how long they were there? Presumably the passenger service was suspended at that time. A picture I really want to see is the RODs which were in store at the dump at Queensferry near Chester, where there were nealy 200 of them at one time.

Did the Aussie RODs come from the dumps in the UK or were they obtained from abroad?

I think they did come from the dumps but the ones they chose hadn't spent too many years in open store. They selected 3 of the only 6 RODs which were actually built at Gorton by the GCR, the GCR itself took the other 3.

The ones that went to China were supplied by various dealers. With so many enthusiasts having been there in recent years, if any trace of them still existed it would have been discovered by now surely.
