Hi, Ive re-posted this as had no luck in the rolling stock forum! It may be of course that no one can help me?

I was reading in Yeadons that Sea Eagle in wartime black carrying No 28 was never photographed as such. This was in 1990, does anyone know if such a photograph has since turned up? Sea Eagle carried No 28 from 20 Nov 1946 to 1 Oct 1947 when it was renamed Walter K Whigham of which there are many photographs as No 28.
Also if anyone knows of a difinitive list of the A4's in every guise, I know there are over 300! I would be grateful.

I have 7 iterations of Sea Eagle in OO scale, and in all my research I have not seen a photo of #28 in NE black.

Did it wear NE Black when re-numbered to 28 or did that renumbering coincide with a return to Garter Blue?

I assume that when A4-Mike quoted:

I don't have Yeadons, and certainly have no information to challenge that.

Just to clarify I've had a look at both Yeadon and RCTS Part 2A

4487 Sea Eagle was renumbered 28 in Nov 1946 still in black

It went into Doncaster works for a General repair on 9/8/47 so its this period we have no photos of it

The engine was released ex works on 1/10/47 repainted in blue and renamed Walter K Whigham (still as 28 of course)

So the plot thickens

PLUS another A4 photo query
60004 William Whitelaw lost its tender to 60009 upon withdrawal in July 1966 from Aberdeen Ferryhill
Apparently by November 1966 it had been ‘paired with a box-van’ for transit to Motherwell for scrap.
Does anyone have a photo of it in this form please?

I am not in possession of many articles or books on the A4, but I have one which has all the information I needed so far.
It is called "Locomotives in Detail 3 Gresley 4-6-2 A4 Class" by David Clarke, publ Ian Allan Publishing 2005.
The author states that his analytical information came from Yeadons Register for the A4.
The main tables in the book are therefore comprehensive, as follows:
Tender types and change dates
Liveries and repainting dates (example #28 shows 8 changes)
Name changes and dates
Smokebox number variations and dates
Shed allocations and dates, and buffer display
Smaller supplementary tables cover works plates, lettering, repair locations, foreign travels, nameplates and preservation.

If a hint is either useful or required, a May 1946 photo of "Merlin" in the book shows the wartime livery with the cabside number 27. Both Merlin and Sea Eagle were not repainted to garter blue until 1947.

Thank you KBT but I have to say the book you mention contains a number of errors and is not one I would refer to. As I’m currently away on holiday I can’t specify the points I’ve marked as ‘dubious’ in my copy
Suffice to say I’d rather concentrate on the RCTS Part 2A and Mr Yeadons splendid volume of the A4s (no. 2 if I recall correctly)
Just to clarify all we are looking for is a photo of ‘No.28 as Sea Eagle’ ....regardless of colour

Plus 60004 with its box van tender as previously described
